Adam McManus Urges Governor Perry to “Take a Stand!”

Editor’s Note: San Antonio Radio Host and Hero Adam McManus has defended the rights of families for years. Adam was recently interviewed during a Texas Capitol rally urging TX Legislators to support HB 41 (Formerly HB 1937) and to urge Gov. Perry to introduce the bill to the special session. It was a privilege to team up with Adam, Texans for Accountable Government, and Rep. David Simpson for this cause. Below find his speech notes and the interview.

My name is Adam McManus.  For 13 years, I hosted a daily 3-hour long talk show in San Antonio on 630, KSLR Radio. Now I edit a conservative political newsletter available at my website: http://www.TakeAStand.net/.  If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my listeners it’s this: “Don’t mess with Texas.”

Then word came down that Obama and Big Sis Janet had simplified the application to become a TSA agent to just one question.  Do you have a degree in groping?  Texans were understandably upset.  It’s bad enough that we’re required to take off our shoes and take off our belts at the TSA checkpoints.  But now that they’re asking us to take off our dignity, they’ve crossed the line.

The answer is not for federal agents to violate our Fourth Amendment right against unreasonable searches – especially ones of such a personal and invasive nature.

I don’t think Patrick Henry would say “Give me liberty or give me a grope.”

Bob Scheiffer asked Hillary Clinton a point blank question:  “Would you submit to one of these pat downs?”

Hillary laughed nervously and said, “Not if I could avoid it! Who would?”

Listen to Ann Coulter on the Hannity program:

“If a Martian landed and looked at how America is responding to the threats to our safety, he would say, the one advantage you guys have is pretty simple. All of the people who wanted to blow up Americans look alike. They’re all foreign-born. They’re all male. They’re all between a certain age group. They’re all Muslim. That’s why Israel uses profiling.  It’s the only advantage we have in this war.  The enemy looks exactly alike.  The 9/11 terrorists, the diaper bomber, the shoe bomber, the printer cartridge bomber — if they all had come from Sweden, we’d be profiling Swedes.  But because they’re Muslims, we refuse to use the only advantage we have.  Airport security is wasting its time.”

Let me be clear.  The answer is not to turn America into a police state.  The answer is for the police to look for the bad guys.

Dennis Miller on The O’Reilly Factor said, “Here’s the TSA policy.  Pat down every 10th person.  We’re not at war with every tenth person.  We’re at war with radical Islam.”

Mark Steyn, a regular guest host for Rush Limbaugh, agrees that we need to profile.  He said,

“We caught the millennium bomber at the British Columbia/Washington State boarding, not because we were examining his hair gel or because we were feeling around in his underwear, but because the agent used simple human judgment about how nervous and shifty he was. The liberals are so worried about appearing politically incorrect, they would rather government bureaucrats have their hands down the underwear of 300 million law-abiding Americans. This is absurd!

“The liberals used to be very good on the idea that you couldn’t subject someone to undue search and intimate full body searches without probable cause. It’s a tragedy that we now accept the right of government bureaucrats to poke around in our private parts because we’re wedded to the pretense that all seven billion people on this planet are an equal security threat to the United States of America.”

Mark Steyn stated the premise perfectly.

But Obama wants to treat us like we’re all fugitives on the TV show Cops.  Like we’re running away half-naked, climbing over the chain-link fence after having robbed someone or sold drugs.  On Cops, the suspects receive their Miranda Warning.

But part of the change that Obama has brought to all innocent Americans who choose to fly is the Obama Warning.

This is what the TSA agents say in the Obama Warning:

“You have the right to remain silent while we fondle you.  Anything you say — while we fondle you — can and will be used against you.  You do not have the right to speak to an attorney while we fondle you.  In fact, if you try to speak or object in any way while we fondle you, you will be fined and or jailed and we’ll call the local cops. Do you understand our rights over your rights as they have been read to you here while you are in line to get on an airplane?”

That’s the Obama Warning.

It’s rather ironic.  The liberals say the government must stay out of our bedroom in the privacy of our own home.  But why aren’t those same liberals saying the government must stay out of our underwear in a public place with dozens of witnesses?

So when Texas State Rep. David Simpson had the guts the introduce House Bill 1937 which simply reaffirms our Fourth Amendment rights from unreasonable searches, the Obama bullies literally threatened to ground all planes flying into and out of Texas.  Hollywood’s most imaginative scriptwriters couldn’t make this stuff up.

I wasn’t disheartened by Obama acting like Obama.  I was disheartened by the Texas Senate acting like Obama.  They caved.  They blinked.   And they acted like the wacknut California legislature instead of principled Texans who don’t run away from a fight.

And I was livid with our Lt. Governor David Dewhurst.  He dissuaded key Texas senators from standing up to the Obama bullies and voting for Simpson’s bill introduced by Senator Dan Patrick.  Now, after receiving thousands of irate phone calls from freedom-loving Texans, including two from the McManus Family in San Antonio, Dewhurst is belatedly on the side of liberty.

All eyes are on Governor Rick Perry.  His 11 years as our Governor have led to this very moment.  The nation is watching – especially in light of his presidential aspirations.  It’s like something out of a movie.

Ladies and gentlemen, in this corner, the leftist, nanny state champion Barack Hussein Obama.  And in this corner, the Texas Governor and the author of “Fed Up: Our Fight To Save America from Washington”,  Rick Perry.

God created Rick Perry for such a time as this.  If Rick Perry stood tall like Daniel in the lions’ den for Texans’ Fourth Amendment rights, God Almighty Himself will close the mouths of the roaring TSA agents and Big Sis Janet.

If he speaks up, he might be the next president of the United States of America. If he remains silent, he’s wasted a uniquely providential opportunity to do what’s right.

In his book “Fed Up”, Governor Perry, a regular guest on my talk show over the years, declared,

“We are fed up with being over-regulated. We are tired of being told how much salt to put on our food, what kind of cars we can drive, what kinds of guns we can own, what kind of prayers we are allowed to say and where we can say them, what we are allowed to do to elect political candidates, what kind of energy we can use, what doctor we can see. What kind of nation are we becoming? I fear it’s the very kind the Colonists fought against.

“But perhaps most of all, we are fed up because deep down we know how great America has always been, how many great things the people do in spite of their government, and how great the nation can be in the future if government will just get out of the way.

Perry concluded:

“Our fight is clear. We must step up and retake the reins of our government from a Washington establishment that has abused our trust. We must empower states to fight for our beliefs, elect only leaders who are on our team, set out to remind our fellow Americans why liberty is guaranteed in the Constitution, and take concrete steps to take back our country. The American people have never sat idle when liberty’s trumpet sounds the call to battle-and today that battle is for the soul of America.”

Amen Governor Perry.  And if you don’t follow through on your own principles – and include House Bill 1937 in this special session – we’ll be fed up with you.
