URGENT ACTION Needed: TSA Bill to Come Before Texas Special Session – We Need Your Help!

BREAKING NEWS

By: Michael Gobart

Gov. Perry adds TSA Legislation to Special Session Call:

After hearing the outcry from citizens from Texas and around the country — as well as an urgent appeal letter sent by State Rep. David Simpson to Gov. Rick Perry late yesterday — the Governor has brought the TSA anti-groping legislation before the call of the special session.

Rep. David Simpson, author of the TSA Anti-Groping Bill in the Texas House, has confirmed 112 coauthors for HB 41 (formerly HB 1937) — far more than enough support to pass this bill. And, on Wednesday, June 15, Senator Dan Patrick informed Governor Perry that he has the votes in the Senate as well.

Senator Patrick offered the following comments after the Governor’s announcement to bring the TSA bills before the session:

“The people’s voice has been heard in Austin. Thanks for the literally thousands of calls & e-mails. This is a “Come & Take It Moment” again for Texas… Once again Texas will take a stand that will reverberate around the nation.”

During a press statement given Monday evening, June 20, Lt. Governor Dewhurst offered the following comments:

“Addressing unreasonable and unlawful searches of innocent travelers by some TSA employees is an issue that affects all Texans who use air travel, and it should not wait until next Session.”

“After working closely with the Attorney General’s Office the last few weeks, I’m confident that we can pass legislation that addresses these threats, while protecting innocent passengers and preserving our state’s rights.”

There are still many Senators who are undecided on these important bills. With this new hope in the Texas legislature, we need to call our Senators and ensure their support in protection of our Fourth Amendment rights. Join in this fight by taking the following actions:

1. Call the Texas senators who are listed below as UNDECIDED on their position on the TSA Anti-Groping bills. Say, “Hello, this is __________ and I want to urge the Senator to support Senator Dan Patrick’s TSA Anti-Groping bill — SB 29, which the Governor just added to the call of the special session.”

2. Call the Texas senators who are listed below as CONFIRMED on their position on the TSA Anti-Groping bills. Say, “Hello, this is __________ and I want to thank the Senator for his/her previous support for Senator Dan Patrick’s TSA Anti-Groping bill — SB 29, which the Governor just added to the call of the special session. And, I want to urge the Senator to seize this ‘Come and Take It!’ moment and maintain support!”

If necessary, offer to provide these senators with documentation of Rep. David Simpson’s response to the Department of Justice’s threat letter received during the regular legislative session:

Texas has always been considered a leader and if the TSA bill passes and is signed into law by the Governor then (in my opinion) other states will follow. Remember, the media and the military is always placing an emphasis on the word “FREEDOM”. The TSA under the Department of Homeland Security is not freedom. Make the calls, send the faxes and lets stand up for Freedom! Bob Marley has two songs to listen to: GET UP STAND UP and BUFFALO SOLDIER.

[...] Help us pass the legislation which 75% of constituents of Texas House districts support! The outpouring of support for this bill has been overwhelming; we have flooded the governor’s office with calls and the powers that be are perking up and paying attention to activists like us. Instead of merely passing a symbolic resolution with strong language, we have the chance to make history by pushing back against the Constitutional violations of the federal government. If you can’t make it to the Capitol, take action from home! [...]
